Just posted: Focus on Metal's 2015 Halloween episode is now available.

Episode 255 - Halloween 2015

Focus on Metal has been around since 2010 but surprisingly we've never done a Halloween episode. This week we aim to rectify that. First up we have Count William Jannusch the voice behind the bands Witchcross and Ravensthorn. I had a damn fine conversation with the Count about both bands. We follow that up with Matt Cuthbertson from Canada's own Untimely Demise.

Find out more about Witchcross and grab a copy of "Crypt of The Undead" at http://witchcross.com/
Catch up with Ravensthorn at https://www.facebook.com/Ravensthorn

Get your fill of Untimely Demise music at https://untimelydemise.bandcamp.com/

Track of the week is from AFM artist and past FoM guest Gama Bomb. This one comes off their latest, "Untouchable Glory". Catch up with Philly and the boys at https://www.facebook.com/gamabomb

Episode 253 - Joel Hoekstra

Night Ranger, T.S.O., Whitesnake and now a killer new solo album guitarist Joel Hoekstra http://www.joelhoekstra.com/ continues to notch up some impressive career credits. This week Joel hooks up with Focus on Metal to talk about hie new album "Dying to Live". Which also has a solid rhythm section in the form of Vinny Appice and Tony Franklin and some vocals courtesy of Jeff Scott Soto and Russell Allen. We round it off with a special treat from our friends in A Sound of Thunder http://www.asoundofthunderband.com/ . They gave us the green light to roll another track from "Tales of The Deadside" for you. All in all, a pretty packed episode this week.

Special Very Cool Book Offer From Martin Popoff

Here's a very special book offer that our friend and mega metal author Martin Popoff is making:

Listen guys,

My books are selling less and less, and I really gotta try be smarter about what I spend my time working on. So I come to you with a weird offer. I don’t know how else to do this. Income dwindling fast.

In order to pick which of the following projects to complete next (most have been picked at to some extent), I’d like you to PRE-ORDER ONE! Please don’t email me back with which one you might take when it’s done—I need commitment of an order I gotta fill. But hear me out (this turns into a sorta 2 for 1).

First off, here are the options:

Shock Tactics: The Explosive Early Years of the NWOBHM (pt. 1 of a two-volume set)
 - like Who Invented Heavy Metal?, i.e. timeline with extensive quotes and ad images, covering the ‘70s and 1980 (most along of all of them)
This Means War: The Sunset Years of the NWOBHM (pt. 2 of a two-volume set)
- like Who Invented Heavy Metal?, i.e. timeline with extensive quotes and ad images, covering the ’81 to ‘84
Who Invented Punk?
- like Who Invented Heavy Metal?, i.e. timeline with extensive quotes and images; although maybe narrative, i.e. paragraphs, regular book
Who Invented Thrash?
- like Who Invented Heavy Metal?, i.e. timeline with extensive quotes and images
a Motorhead book
 - classic early lineup only, plus extensive Epilogue to present day

Prices are:
US orders: $34.00 US
Overseas orders: $40.00 US
Canadian orders: $37.00 Canadian

Paypal address is martinp@inforamp.net

Now, the way this will work is I’m gonna add up the orders per each book, and the one that gets the most, that’s what I’m going to complete next and ship to those people who picked that one.

If you picked a different one, because I hate owing anybody anything for too long, I want you to pick TWO from the following batch, and I will simply send both of those instead, after my two week test of which wins.

I don’t care what you do with them. I will sign them generically and you can give them to a buddy for Christmas, keep them, whatever.

Who Invented Heavy Metal?
Sail Away: Whitesnake’s Fantastic Voyage
Live Magnetic Air: The Unlikely Saga Of The Superlative Max Webster
Sweating Bullets: The Deth And Rebirth Of Megadeth
Smokin’ Valves: A Headbanger’s Guiide to 900 NWOBHM Records
Scorpions: Top Of The Bill
Epic Ted Nugent
It’s Getting Dangerous: Thin Lizzy 81-12
We Will Be Strong: Thin Lizzy 76-81
Fighting My Way Back: Thin Lizzy 69-76
The Deep Purple Royal Family: Chain Of Events ‘80 – ‘11
The Deep Purple Royal Family: Chain Of Events Through ‘79
A Castle Full Of Rascals: Deep Purple ‘83 – ‘09
Gettin’ Tighter: Deep Purple ‘68 – ‘76
Ye Olde Metal: 1979
Ye Olde Metal: 1977
Ye Olde Metal: 1976
Ye Olde Metal: 1973 To 1975
Ye Olde Metal: 1968 To 1972
Dio: Light Beyond The Black
Rainbow: English Castle Magic
UFO: Shoot Out The Lights
Blue Öyster Cult: Secrets Revealed!

So that’s it. What I need you to do is order one book, and specify in the note section of PayPal or just in a separate email to me, THREE books: one from the uncompleted list and two from the existing book list. Within a few months, you’ll either get the new one, or within three to four weeks, you’ll get TWO from the second list. No refunds, as this gets into PayPal fees bull and admin nightmares – lemme just fill the orders.

STOP THE PRESSES!: Actually, wait, just thought of this: you can designate your payment for any number of books from the first list that you would be happy with receiving! That increases the odds of me sending one of those, when done, rather than the two from the second list – up to you.

Cool?

Just Posted: Part 5 of the Little Mountain Sound Project

Episode 252 - Little Mountain Sound Part 5

It's already October and we are only up to the fifth installment in our Little Mountain Sound series. I think we might be a bit behind schedule. Anyways, this week we bring you great talk we had with Bob Brooks back in October of 2014. Bob was initially the manager at LMS and eventually along with his wife was the owner of the studio. Bob, in my mind, is the architect of the modern era of Little Mountain sound. Bob is still in the recording business and you can out what he's up to and read his whole history at https://www.brookssound.com/

Inescapable Damnation, which includes performances from David Ellefson (Megadeth), Kevin Talley (Suffocation, Six Feet Under, Chimaira), Kelly Conlon (Death, Monstrosity) and Rodney McGlothlin (Voice of Dissent), is set for an October 16 release. Pre-orders are now available at masakimurashita.bigcartel.com.

"Kings are born kings, so don't waste your time and pay homage to Murashita. Now, you mortal!" - Dark Souls United

Masaki Murashita first showed his scorching riffs and powerful songwriting, along with his blistering and aggressive vocal style with the critically acclaimed modern thrash band Hemoptysis in 2007 and he has been clawing his way to the top ever since. Combining elements of melody, thrash and modern extreme metal, Masaki has molded his own razor sharp brand of metal that is moving into the next stage of metal evolution.

MURASHITA is now releasing the debut solo EP, Inescapable Damnation, which features some of the top players in metal - including David Ellefson (Megadeth), Kevin Talley (Suffocation, Six Feet Under, Chimaira), Kelly Conlon (Death, Monstrosity), Rodney McGlothlin (Voice of Dissent) - and mixing by award-winning producer, Ryan Greene (Megadeth, NOFX).
Early previews of the new MURASHITA release performed on EMGtv were met with overwhelmingly positive reviews. The international tour to support Inescapable Damnation begins in Japan this coming September.

Chastain to release "We Bleed Metal" on November 6th

Chastain is set to release their latest "We Bleed Metal" on November 6th via Pure Steel Records. Here at Focus on Metal we are anxiously awaiting this one.

By mentioning the name CHASTAIN, Metal maniacs and lovers of female-fronted Metal bands fall into endless rapture. Active since 1985, the band featuring legendary vocalist Leather Leone and guitarist David T. Chastain has earned an almost godlike status with albums such as "Ruler Of The Wasteland“ (1986) and "The Voice Of The Cult“ (1988).

Now, Pure Steel Records has the honour to welcome this band. With the release of the new, now tenth album, "We Bleed Metal,“ the cult act still delivers the old spirit and celebrates traditional Heavy/Power Metal at its best. The unique heavy vocals of Leather Leone and the dark, shredding riffs of the eponym are still full of contemporary impact. Not pandering to any trends, this is pure steel from the U.S.A.!

To sum it up: With "We Bleed Metal“ CHASTAIN releases their best effort in at least 25 years!

TRACKLIST:
1. We Bleed Metal
2. All Hail The King
3. Against All The Gods
4. Search Time For You
5. Don't Trust Tomorrow
6. I Am A Warrior
7. Evolution of Terror
8. The Last Ones Alive
9. Secrets

LINE-UP:
Leather Leone – vocals
Mike Skimmerhorn – bass
Stian Kristoffersen – drums
David T. Chastain – guitars
