ZOLDIER NOIZ: "Regression Process" Coming May 27 via Unspeakable Axe Records

Outlaw thrash extremists ZOLDIER NOIZ will release their second full-length, Regression Process, on May 27 through Unspeakable Axe Records, with distribution from Dark Descent Records.

Their name evokes warfare, loud sounds, and primitivism, which are all good things to have in mind when preparing for the onslaught of French thrashers ZOLDIER NOIZ.  A ferocious blend of Motorhead, earliest Voivod, crust punk, death metal and more, ZOLDIER NOIZ have been around for over a decade now, churning out demos as well as a previous studio album Schizoid Reject. That effort landed them a coveted spot as Fenriz's Band of the Week back in 2010.  Now they are back to follow that up with their second album Regression Process.

The art is stark and evocative of punk and grindcore with its cut-and-paste aesthetics and overtones of social commentary.  There's definitely a strong punk vibe to the music as well, but at its core, Regression Process is metal in one of its earliest and most molten forms - speed metal blurring over into death; thrash without the technical window dressing.  Songs are vicious and to the point, and the rough and raw vocals suggest Lemmy if he tried to fill in at the mic for Bolt Thrower.

1. Grave Crawler
   2. Random Justice
 3. Tomorrow Is Today
   4. Regression Process
   5. Thirty Nine Forty Five
   6. Dread Relieves
   7. Vacant Worlds
   8. Ebola Syndrome
   9. Filthy Few
   10. Life Under Will

Definitively Love-it-or-Puke-it Old-School Metal the way it should be. No triggers, no expensive studio, no video games covers, no PC moral lessons, no costumes and a careless, FTW attitude. Throughout the years the band has shared stages in France, Spain and Italy with bands like Children Of Technology, Korgull The Exterminator, Charnier, Graveyard, Nunslaughter, Loculo, Necro, Insulters, Grave Desecrator.

Transcend Music to Release "Reflections" from Israeli Metallers FERIUM on April 7

Israeli aggressive metallers FERIUM will release Reflections through the UK's Transcend Music on April 7.

Though a deft mix of metal sub-genres can be heard, the common denominator is one composed of stellar musicianship and memorable songwriting, making Reflections an album beyond compare. The result is a release that offers listeners a new experience every time the play button is hit. While lyrical themes of of personal struggles, relationship problems and the day-in-day-out struggles of a mundane existence can be detected, the potential for listener interpretation is wide open. FERIUM brings it with force and leaves you in deep thought, even as the pain from the body blows fights for your attention.

Couple Of Things

1. Just finished reading Robert Plant A Life by Paul Rees. Very well researched book about one of the most iconic rock vocalists ever. The man is clearly a bit of a contradiction, a family man with a roving eye for the ladies, tight with money yet generous if the mood takes him, fiercely loyal yet not so. I particularly enjoyed the section on his solo stuff as I love most of it. The cast of characters the author has interviewed is impressive from school friends to previous band members, he seems to have talked to numerous people from all eras of Plant's career that really enhance the story. He also gives his own opinions on all the albums and I always like that even if I don't agree with some of them. With Robert Plant it's always about the music, the author says that at 65 he is "still curious, still questing, still wanting to be challenged and surprised". That's why the Zep reunion show was a one off and he really didn't want to do it. Jimmy Page would go out as Zeppelin tomorrow, Plant would rather travel in a transit van and play club shows.

2. Yes it has its faults but I am enjoying the new season of That Metal Show. Great mixture of guests from the old to the new. The interviews for the most part are pretty good but there are some comments from guests that just scream for a follow up that never comes. Mick Mars was asked if he ever felt like leaving Motley Crue and he said yes during the Generation Swine album. Surely the next logical question was why didn't you or did the other band members know or feel the same way as you. None of the hosts went there. Last night had Vinnie Paul, nothing asked about Rex Brown or Phil Anselmo. The Pantera reunion is a safe and tired question. You know what else is tired, Eddie Trunk harping on that he had a hand in the formation of The Winery Dogs. They were guests last night and he couldn't wait to blurt it out. We know that by now. The album was released last year and it's nearly April 2014. The album is great. Gotta say that Yngwie last night was fantastic.

3. Forthcoming releases I'm really Looking forward to. New Winger, Kyng and I'm interested to hear what Sebastian Bach has done with John 5. Been some great releases already this year and people say the album is dead. Can't wait to read Paul Stanley's book. For me he has always been the workhorse in that band. New Joe Satch book soon too.

REVELATION: "Salvation's Answer" to be Reissued by Shadow Kingdom Records April 29

Shadow Kingdom Records will reissue a Doom Metal classic called Salvation's Answer from Baltimore's REVELATION on April 29. Shadow Kingdom's Tim McGrogan gives us the rundown:

"Shadow Kingdom Records is thrilled to finally re-issue a groundbreaking 90's Doom Metal classic - REVELATION - Salvation's Answer! This was originally released on the classic Rise Above Records all the way back in 1991. It was one of their first releases when they started the label. Even today, there's nothing quite like this album, a lost gem stuck in the sands of time. Very few bands have been influenced by REVELATION's unique brand of Progressive Doom Metal. This is a special album that will only attract people who are really looking for sub-basement classics."

Salvation's Answer is streaming now at shadowkingdomrecords.bandcamp.com.

Details and ordering info can be found at store.shadowkingdomrecords.com

Def Leppard- Slang (Deluxe Edition)

Def Leppard couldn't win no matter what they did. Seen as one of the poster bands of everything that was wrong with 80's hard rock they took a fall when grunge hit. They would have been killed had they done another sugary coated Adrenalize so they took a chance and went the other way. Well somewhat. Old school fans had shouted from the rafters for years that the band had lost their hard rock roots. The ultimate sin........chicks dug them in bucketloads. So they actually stripped back the layers so it sounded like a real band again. What happens, well they get shit for doing that too.

I saw the Slang tour and you could tell the band were adjusting to their new environment. It wasn't that the new songs weren't any good cause they were they just sounded different. I suppose a rock sometimes was definitely out of the question. The album itself to me still sounds great. The only track that's Hysteria sounding Leppard is the title track. Truth, Turn To Dust and Pearl of Euphoria take a little getting used to. Work It Out is a great song written solely by Vivian Campbell. Gift of Flesh rocks. Where Does Love Go When It Dies is one of the best ballads the band ever wrote.

So do the extra tracks add anything. Well for one there's a lot of them, some b-sides and unreleased demo tracks. Don't be fooled by the new titled songs on disc 2 as the majority of them are the same as on the finished album just with different lyrics in the chorus. For the uber fan there is a lot here though. Casual fans or even old school High 'N' Dry geeks made up their mind about this album a long time ago.

In finishing I am surprised this got a makeover. There aren't many multi-platinum hard rock bands from the eighties chomping at the bit to revisit albums that hardly set the world afire in the nineties. Packaging as always for the Leps is great with sleeve notes from Joe and tons of pics. It's an album worth a listen again with fresh ears. This one is not as contrived as the follow up Euphoria and for a band like this was a brave move.

I'm Going To Throw This Out There

A lot of folks are going to think I am bonkers for what I am going to write next. Jimmy Page has never fulfilled his potential. I realize that many a player would donate a finger or two to have a fraction of the god given talent the man has. Led Zeppelin are one of the biggest bands ever and their influence is everywhere. So why am I writing this now? Well it's because Jimmy has gone back to what is safe for him and re-mastered the Zep catalogue (again.....yawn) but wait, there's bonus tracks. I bet most of them will add nothing to the legacy and many fans will marvel at "new" music. Alternate takes with different lyrics and some rehearsal jams never match expectations. Great great band, I really mean that.

So here's my point. Has what he's done since hit the mark with you. The Death Wish soundtrack and solo album Outrider had some fine moments. Some. Remember the hype over Robert Plant singing on one of the tracks. Can you name it? See. The Firm with Paul Rodgers never matched expectations. Now Coverdale/Page was great in 1993 but after a couple of shows in Japan fizzled out which was a pity. Cue a phone call to Mr. Plant and the Unledded album featuring Moroccan Zep and some new stuff that again didn't set the world afire. Then a new studio album proper, the has its moments Walking Into Clarksdale. I saw that tour and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. That was in the mid-nineties.

Since then its been ye ole Zep revisited all the way, a re-mastering job, the Black Crowes thing and the O2 show with subsequent live cd/dvd combo. Oh and who can forget that collaboration with Puff Daddy sampling Kashmir. Like........really? So it's Zep or bust for Jimmy it seems and though there's talk of a solo album the man is 70 years old now. Yes a legend but it seems so long ago that the man has released anything new. Then again maybe he quit while the going was good and realized there was only a slippery downward slope ahead. It's not that he needs the cash now is it.

ASKA Confirmed as Friday Night Headliners for Warriors Of Metal Fest VII

March 21, 2014  Cincinnati, Ohio -- The Warriors of Metal, Inc. non-profit organization is very excited to welcome back the only band to headline the fest three years in a row. Dallas-based Traditional Metal professionals ASKA, who headlined in 2009, 2010 and 2011, has officially signed on as the Friday night headliner for our 7th annual Warriors Of Metal Fest. ASKA will be supporting their sixth studio album, Fire Eater which was released through Germany's Pure Steel Records in September of last year.

The 7th annual Warriors of Metal Fest will be held June 27 - 28 at O'Shecky's LIVE Bar & Grill in Columbus, Ohio.

Band founder, vocalist and guitarist, George Call states: "When we here at ASKA were approached by the brain trust about coming back to Warriors of Metal and headlining Friday's portion of the fest I said, 'Awesome! Who do we gotta kill?' Not because we actually wanted to kill anyone but you get the sentiment right? After all, who wouldn't want to get back to, perform for and hang out with those beloved portions of our extended metal family that the Warriors of Metal Fest has come to represent? See, WOM is not just a fest where we perform for fans but one in which we bleed, sweat, laugh and commune with our brothers and sisters of Metal. It really is one big family and the 'blood' that unites us is STEEL. And so it is with that sentiment that we look forward to this latest installment of the Warriors of Metal Festival, now indoors, come June - because just as much as you want to see ASKA, ASKA wants to see you. Dig? Hail and see you all at WOM Fest VII!"

The band's official music video for the track "Dead Again" can be seen HERE.

ASKA is brought back to Warriors of Metal Fest VII due to the generous fan sponsorships by Kit & Jen Ekman from Mobile, Alabama, brothers Edward and Mike Schmidt from Cleveland, Ohio, Dennis Schwan and Megan Stewart from Detroit, Michigan, and last but not least, Lance Souther & Laurie Rhodes from Dayton, Ohio. We are grateful for their contributions and constant support through the years.

Tickets are on sale and various levels of sponsorship opportunities are now available at the Fest's website at www.warriorsofmetal.org

Review - Don Jamieson "Hell Bent For Laughter" (Metal Blade)

Don Jamieson's second comedy release is scheduled to drop on March 18th via Metal Blade. Once again Don has delivered some solid metal comedy. If you don't know metal you probably won't get most of the jokes, but if you are a longtime metal fan all will make sense and you will enjoy the bulk of this release. Those who have seen Don on That Metal Show will have a good idea of what to expect but unlike on cable Don just lets it fly.

Don Jamieson comments: "I'm really pumped to unleash my second stand-up comedy CD, 'Hell Bent For Laughter,'on the masses. In this day and age of "fake outrage," Metal Blade never asked me to tone it down or soften anything up. So I didn't."

With track names like "Halford, Ozzy and Kiss" and "Bad Dates, Dead Cats & Terrorist Ants" I think you get a general idea of what you are in for. You have to admire the guy. Doing metal comedy does tend to limit your audience and there's only a handful of guys out there with the balls to stick to their guns and Jamieson is one of them. Recorded in December of 2013 in the same venue as his previous release I think it's a warts and all honest representation of Don's stand up act.

My favorite moment? Probably when he talks about wishing Storage Wars was on back in the eighties and someone bidding on the locker that GNR was living in.

In true metal style Don is taking his sideburns and the album out on tour. You can catch him at the following dates:

Helmsplitter: "Enraptured by Suffering" Out Now on Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

Rock Island, Illinois' HELMSPLITTER have made their Horror Pain Gore Death Productions debut with the ferocious beast known as Enraptured By Suffering.

HELMSPLITTER are a Molotov cocktail of Black Metal, Sludge, Death Metal, Crust Punk, Thrash, Doom Metal and hateful Blues. This is extreme metal that takes you on a musical roller coaster through a world of misanthropy, pain, frustration and despair. Unpredictable, relentless and absurdly heavy, HELMSPLITTER manage to blend various styles together in a seamless, naturally flowing and unforced manner that is uncanny. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Scott Creekmore (BROKEN HOPE, NUM SKULL, LUPARA) and features Blakk (ANGELKILL, MORTUARY OATH, MASKIM) on vocals. Enraptured By Suffering is recommended fans of MORBID ANGEL ANGELCORPSE, GRAVE, DARKTHRONE, MALEVOLENT CREATION, EYEHATEGOD, GOATWHORE, GORGOROTH, and MARDUK, among others.

Enraptured by Suffering is available on digital and CD formats at the following links:

1. Tyrants for Blood
2. Panzram
3. Aura of Suicide
4. Burden of Our Existence
5. Dance of The Heretic
6. World So Wicked
7. Portrait of Scars
8. The Ground Bleeds Sorrow
9. Forged In Fire
10. Days of Loathing
11. Summon The Leeches

HELMSPLITTER was born in the summer of 2008 when guitarist Ross Mallie and drummer Nate Boyd joined forces. After filling out the rest of the lineup the band spent the next few years playing shows around the Midwestern region of the United States as well as recording a demo. Around this time it became apparent that the band would have to part ways with their original singer and bass player due to a combination of scheduling difficulties and musical differences. Vocalist Blakk and bassist Lyndon Ehlers were contacted in regards to filling the empty positions, and it was not long before both accepted the invitation. This lineup overhaul was exactly what the band needed to become what it was intended to be from the beginning. The music became more dark and sinister, and the lyrics became more thought provoking and disturbing. The visual aspect of the band also evolved as a result of the band agreeing on a new logo and artwork direction.

Storms of Genocide, the band's self-released debut album, began to circulate around the underground and eventually caught the attention of Mike Juliano, owner of Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. It was not long before an agreement was reached and the band signed with the label. February 18th of 2014 saw the release of Enraptured by Suffering, Helmsplitter's second album and HPGD debut.  The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Scott Creekmore (Broken Hope, Lupara, Num Skull) at Mercenary Digital Studios during the months of September and October of 2013. Enraptured by Suffering is a merciless slab of sonic abuse that goes for the throat right out of the gate with the blazing opening track  "Tyrants for Blood" and does not let up all the way through to the end of the heavier than granite closer "Summon the Leeches."

HELMSPLITTER is a collective of talented and dedicated musicians who will stop at nothing to make their art the best that it can possibly be. This is just the beginning for a band that is just going to continue to get better and better at their craft.  The current lineup has only been together a few years and is constantly improving as musicians and songwriters, and as a live act. When people are passionate about what they do you can expect them to do it for as long as possible, and considering it is a fact that a true love of music is what motivates every member of HELMSPLITTER it is clear that it is a band that will not be stopping anytime soon.

Is He Crazy or What?

I see Tom Gabriel Fischer has revealed that Celtic Frost was offered $140,000 to play one show at Wacken this year. Turned them down too. So what do you think, admirable or dumb? That's a lot of change to say no to and it's only one show be it a big one. Then again Tom has always followed the beat of his own drum and done whatever the fuck he wanted. Remember Cold Lake, many die-hard fans have spent years trying to forget it.

I have to admire his stance though. Here's a chance to cash in if the show goes well and you know it would be a big deal. Then some reunion shows and more cash for the pension fund. There's a list longer then my two arms of bands that have done this. Most can't pull off what they used to, either we as fans are too dumb to care cause hey man they are taking us way back or the guys on stage don't want to know. So he nipped it in the bud straight away. Should have gone to see them may years ago and tough shit if you didn't.

Then again he might do it for $10,000 more.......pride be damned.

Richie.
