Focus on Metal with Rex Brown and Ronny Munroe is Now Available

Week 2 of Metal Month 2013 is upon us and we briefly hop off the Strange Highway to bring you two metal legends with two great releases that you need to know about now. In round one we have the one and only Ronny Munroe talking to us about the new Metal Church release Generation Nothing and in round two we have legendary bassist Rex Brown chatting up the new Kill Devil Hill release Revolution Rise.

Review - Kill Devil Hill- Revolution Rise (Century Media Records)

   Remember last year when the debut came out. The selling point: features Rex Brown and Vinny Appice. I was like many others curious to see what it sounded like. Definitely more Sabbath then Pantera sounding but reminded me a lot of Alice In Chains. That's not a knock on the debut at all, I liked it but let's see what they come up with next after hauling ass on a tour bus.

   One year on and with Rex Brown now fully integrated into the band comes the sophomore effort Revolution Rise. Two things jump out: how strong the songs are and how much more of a complete unit the band sounds. The chops of the rhythm section doesn't need any further explanation. The playing of guitarist  Mark Zavon and vocals of Dewey Bragg especially are fantastic. It's like these two upped their game and said hey what about me too.

   With the guidance of Jeff Pilson the band have come up with one of the best hard rock/metal releases you will hear this year. From the slamming opener No Way Out featuring Zakk Wylde to personal favourite Life Goes On every song is strong. This rocks, big time. In a period that has seen a glut of new releases from Alter Bridge, Death Angel, Metal Church et al this one should not be lost in the pile.

   We recently spoke with Rex Brown and Vinny Appice and they were excited about the new album. It wasn't media press speak. After hearing this you can tell why.
