THE DEAD DAISIES ANNOUNCE DEBUT U.S HEADLINE GIG AT LOS ANGELES WHISKY A GO GO

Hot on the heels of The Dead Daisies’ announcement of full details of their superlative new studio album, ‘Make Some Noise’, releasing on Spitfire Records / SPV on August 5th, the band have now slotted several more milestone events into their already packed high profile touring schedule.

On September 15th, The Dead Daisies will play their first ever headline show in America when they bring their full stunning live set to legendary Los Angeles venue Whisky a Go Go.

Support act will be Steve Rodgers, (son of Free vocalist, Paul Rodgers). Tickets are priced at $20 and are available via www.whiskyagogo.com/home

Having wowed the crowds as special guests at last year’s Planet Rockstock Festival, The Dead Daisies have now been confirmed to headline this essential event on Friday December 2nd 2016 at Trecco Bay in Wales. The band state that “Last year was just a warmup. This year, we're gonna blow Planet Rockstock apart!!”

Planet Rock Radio organizer Jon Norman raves “We have had some amazing bands perform at Planet Rockstock over the years, and the Dead Daisies are right up there with the best of them. They rocked the house last year, so we’re excited to have them back again, but this time to headline the main stage.” Check out more details at www.planetrock.com/rockstock

Expect more major announcements in the coming months as The Dead Daisies’ rapidly rising star goes stratospheric in the run-up to the release of ‘Make Some Noise’, the group’s soon-to-be-acclaimed legendary classic third album.

Review - "On A Mission. Live in Madrid" Michael Schenker's Temple of Rock (inakustik 2016)

Recorded at Joy Eslava in Madrid Spain on Nov 19th, 2015 On A Mission is a great musical document of an amazing band pulling out all the stops. And what a band. Of course you have the mighty Michael Schenker doing what he does best plus the soaring vocals of Doogie White. Add to that the extremely well oiled rhythm section of Herman Rarebell and Francis Bucholz and you have the making for a night of great music. However they go one step further with the added musical chops from Wayne Findlay. Besides being able to bask in the glory of Michael's superb playing one great thing about this video is that we can really see what Wayne brings to the band on both eight string guitar and keyboards. When I had talked to Michael a few years back he was singing the praises of Wayne's talents but this video really brings it into sharp perspective.

The setlist is pretty much flawless with track from Temple of Rock, UFO, and the Scorpions. 22 tracks in all and all of them are delivered with high intensity. We are talking over two hours of Schenker here and that's not a bad thing. And I gotta say the audio quality is spot on. The mix on this thing is perfect.

This killer set is available in several formats including DVD, Blu-ray, and CD. There's also a Limited Deluxe Edition with 2 Blu-ray discs and 2 CDS. This gets you more bonus content including some sweet insight into Michael's guitars. It is of course also available as a digital download.

All in all there's nothing bad I can say about this release except maybe it just leaves us waiting anxiously for the next Temple of Rock release. I hear you. Is it really that good? Well let me put it this way. I watched the whole thing and then I immediately watched it again and I was still just as mesmerized as I was on the first play.

Go get yourself a copy of On A Mission Live in Madrid it's well worth your metal dollar.

Wicked Maraya and Lee Aaron on this weeks Focus on Metal.

Episode 282 - Wicked Maraya

I guess the theme of this one is “comeback”. First up we’ll talk with Falco the vocalist from Wicked Maraya a band we haven’t heard new music from since 1998. They just dropped “Lifetime in Hell” via Massacre Records and Falco will give us the rundown on this old/new release.

Here's one of the two new tracks

Also this week we have special guest Lee Aaron. She just released “Fire And Gasoline” and it’s her first “rock” record in quite a while. It might not be Metal Queen 2016 but it’s an honest take on where she is now. Some great guitar work on this one from former Crash Kelly axeman Sean Kelly

Track of the week is off the second release "II" from Lords of Black which contains 12 tracks of awesome metal goodness brought to us by Frontiers Records.

Here's another taste from Lords of Black

Denner / Shermann to release full-length album, 'Masters Of Evil', on June 24th via Metal Blade Records; first single, "Angel's Blood", now online

Twin guitar lengends of Mercyful Fate Michael Denner & Hank Shermann have completed the mixing and mastering of their new Denner / Shermann full-length album, Masters Of Evil - to be released by Metal Blade Records on June 24th.

The album cover was painted by Swedish artist Thomas Holm, who also created the Satan's Tomb artwork - and who is very well known amongst fans for his standout pieces over the past three decades! The mixing was once again handled by Arnold Lindberg at Sound Industry Studio in Gothenburg, Sweden - who engineered their critically acclaimed EP, Satan's Tomb. Mastering was done once again by Maor Appelbaum in Los Angeles, California. The vintage sound on the new record harkens one back to the days of 2 inch tape machines, long nights in dark studios, and huge consoles glowing under dim incandescent light.

Masters Of Evil contains 8 new Denner / Shermann tracks that continue right where the EP left off. Building upon the musical foundation of the Satan's Tomb EP, these songs cover the entire gamut of heavy metal nuances and take the listener down a mysterious path where tales of dark, supernatural fantasies are told, transporting you to places that can only be found in the most vivid, blood curdling nightmares.

Masters Of Evil is fully loaded to satisfy the old fans with just what they would expect - and also injected with menacing, sinister, new surprises that could only come from the sonic DNA of Michael Denner and Hank Shermann.

"After 'Satan's Tomb', we continued aggressively writing and recording ideas, except for the short break we took to do all the press for the release of the debut. We are very excited with the outcome, and the full-length album is ready to be unleashed this summer," says guitarist Hank Shermann.

Vocalist Sean Peck comments, "This record really has it all I think. Working with Hank and Michael and the guys creating this record, was the ultimate metal thrill ride for me! I can't wait to hear the fan reaction to this sinister sonic salvo of savagery!"

Michael Denner also adds, "This new record really shows how the five of us have grown as a band and bonded as songwriters. It contains the kind of compositions I believe our fans would expect from us. I think this release will serve as kind of a tribute to our incredible fans worldwide, as we recognize and acknowledge their die hard loyalty over the years."

The first single, "Angel's Blood", comes right at you with a sonic sledge hammer! Once the guitars hit your ears, the unmistakable trademark guitar sound of Michael Denner and Hank Shermann is instantly recognized. Prepare yourself for a heavy metal thrill ride!

With the upcoming Denner / Shermann release on June 24th, also comes live touring. Ever since the first announcement that this guitar duo was reforming, many show requests have been received from all over the world. Now with a full complement of original songs to draw from, look for the group to bring those to a city near you very soon.

Night Demon, Great Scott bar, Allston, MA on 4/28/2016

Last years Curse Of The Damned album surprised the hell out of me. Here was a new band doing an old school metal album and actually pulling it off without it sounding modern or contrived. It really did feel like it was recorded in the U.K in 1980. I couldn't wait to hear some of it live and it did not disappoint.

Coming on stage just before midnight the band played the whole album in reverse order. It sounded amazing. Great old school no frills metal, perfect for the venue. New guitarist Armand John Anthony fits right in. Being so close to the stage you can tell that even though it's their livelihood the band love the music, drummer Dusty Squires often singing along to the songs, singer and bass player Jarvis Leatherby constantly on the move. Highlights and there were many included Heavy Metal Heat, Satan and the album's title track.

A well deserved encore of The Chalice from their earlier ep featured an appearance from their Mascot Rocky, think early Eddie with Maiden. Earlier I had spoken to Jarvis about what the future held for the band, he told me the new album is done and they have a 5 year plan. After seeing this I'm all in. Go see them.

Richie.
