Noise Records Historian David Gehlke guests on This Weeks Focus on Metal

Episode 337 - Noise Records

Great show this week as we bring you a chat we had with David E. Gehlke the author of “Damn The Machine - The Story of Noise Records”. This is definitely one metal story that must be told and David does it in style with a massive book that’s a must for any metal fan. It’s summer reading time so if you want to get yourself a copy direct from David head to his site at DeliberationPress.com or you can always head to Amazon or also it’s carried by SPV in Europe via the mighty NuclearBlast.de

EVILE TO RELEASE SPLIT VINYL WITH ENTOMBED FOR RECORD STORE DAY

Britain's EVILE will be celebrating this year's Record Store Day by releasing a split 7" picture disc vinyl with Swedish death metal legends ENTOMBED.

The limited edition release will feature ENTOMBED's classic 1990 track, "Drowned", along with EVILE's incredible 2012 cover version, available on vinyl for the first time.  The 7" will be available in independent record stores on Saturday, April 20th in strictly limited quantities.

Local favourites EVILE will also be performing a special show for fans at Crash Records in Leeds, UK on April 20th at 4pm.  Space is limited, but fans who buy the 7" vinyl from Crash Records on the day will get free entry to the show (space permitting).

EVILE drummer BEN CARTER comments:

"Evile are looking forward to making some stupidly heavy noise at Crash Records in Leeds on Saturday, 20th April in support of Record Store Day!  We're going to start destroying ears at 4pm, so make sure to get in early as space will be VERY limited!  We guarantee this show will be utter carnage and something very different than the norm.  We can't wait to see how a circle pit will work in a record store and need our fans there to show us!!!  To mark the occasion, we'll be selling our new exclusive 7" split of our cover of Entombed's 'Drowned', with Entombed's original on the flipside.  All this is to show support to indie retailers, so get yer asses down to Crash and show your support for the old school!!!"

Founded in 2007 and officially kicked off in 2008 by METALLICA, Record Store Day takes place on the third Saturday of every April and brings together artists and independently-owned record stores around the world to celebrate the art of music.  Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and sold in independent stores.

For more information about Record Store Day and to see the list of participating UK stores, go to http://www.recordstoreday.co.uk

EVILE bassist JOEL GRAHAM comments:

"We are really looking forward to playing a few shows with the mighty Kreator this April; we really enjoyed touring the US with them for two months back in 2010.  We'll be fresh out of the studio too around this time, so who knows, it's possible these shows could see us playing some new stuff for the first time..."

Famed Kreator/Celtic Frost Illustrator to Design New Hirax Album Cover

Philip Lawvere, the artist behind such classic album covers as KREATOR's Pleasure to Kill and CELTIC FROST's Emperor's Return, has come out of retirement and will design the as-yet-untitled new HIRAX album, which is scheduled for a Spring 2013 release.

Lawvere had done stunning illustrations for numerous albums and is best known for a slew of thrash metal offerings released on Noise Records. HIRAX front man commented:

"We couldn't be happier to have Philip Lawvere illustrating the cover of our new album; after getting Bill Metoyer to produce it, this is truly the icing on the thrash metal cake!"

Visit Philip Lawvere's Facebook page to check out his work at www.facebook.com/lawvereArt.

In other news, HIRAX is pleased to announce that new single "La Boca de la Bestia (The Mouth of the Beast)" is now the most downloaded song from the band in its storied history. Visit iTunes to buy it now at:

"La Boca de la Bestia (The Mouth of the Beast)" was recorded, produced and mastered by Bill Metoyer at Skull Seven Productions.

"La Boca de la Bestia" (The Mouth of the Beast)" details:

Part I: The Conquest - Guitar Intro

Part II: Thunder Roar

Part III: La Boca de la Bestia (The Mouth of the Beast)

Early Praise for "La Boca de la Bestia (The Mouth of the Beast)"

"Organic true metal!  Very good guitar work!  It shreds and kills!

- Juan Garcia (Agent Steel, Evildead)

"I can't decide if I like the headbanging part at the intro better or the heads-down, double bass thrash attack that comes afterwards. Great chorus, great guitar solo section! This is a thrash metal classic for sure! A no-remorse killer! I'm still snarling the chorus under my breath!  - Willie A. Gee (Megadeth veteran guitar tech)

HIRAX is:

Katon W. De Pena (vocals)

Lance Harrison (lead guitars)

Steve Harrison (bass guitar)

Jorge Iacobellis (drums)

Mike Guerreo (lead guitars)
