We hear from Jonny Z and a throwback talk with Cliff and Kirk from 1985 on this weeks Focus on Metal

Episode 442 - Heavy Tales

What can I say about this weeks show? It’s definitely got a Metallica theme, that’s for sure. First up we talk with Jonny Z, the founder of Megaforce Records. And unless you’ve been under a rock you know this guy was pivotal in the evolution of metal. Jon just put out his autobiography “Heavy Tales” and we’ll hear all about it. We follow that up with an amazing bit of metal history as we air an interview done with Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett at the 1985 Metal Hammer Festival. This incredible interview was provided by listener Raf Ahrayeph who is also the guy who conducted the interview at the Sept 14th 1985 stop on the Ride The Lightning tour.

Here's "Ride The Lightning" from that festival

Colorado Thrashers Havok on This Weeks Focus on Metal

Episode 374 - Havok

Century Media artists Havok have been bringing the thrash since 2004. You would think that after all this time that spellcheck would not try to correct the band name but apparently technology can’t keep up with the relentless assault of these thrashers.

Richie spent a bit of time on the bus with the band when they had a tour stop in Worcester. He was able to talk with the whole band and that’s what we have in store for ya this week.

Here's some social commentary courtesy of Havok from their latest release

DEATH DEALER ADDED TO MOTORHEAD'S MOTORBOAT CRUISE LINE-UPm

One of the best boat cruises for metal fans is undoubtedly Motörhead's Motörboat. And for this year's edition, Death Dealer has been added to an absolutely stellar line-up, which includes of course, the legendary Motörhead, as well as such renowned/heavy acts as Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Suicidal Tendencies, Hatebreed, and Corrosion of Conformity, among others.

Running from September 28-October 2, 2015, and setting sail from Miami to the private island of Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas, the Motörboat ups the ante on standard Caribbean cruise vacations with a 24-hour, face melting party for days on end, headquartered on white sandy beaches and the sun-drenched deck of the Norwegian Sky.

This jaunt along the Atlantic Ocean will also coincide with the release of Death Dealer's highly anticipated second full-length, 'Hallowed Ground,' which drops on October 2nd, via Sweden Music Group (SMG), with a hard-hitting video, for "Break the Silence”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyZmHD3hqAM
Featuring members that have previously played with the likes of Manowar, the Dictators, Rob Halford, Lizzy Borden, Denner/Shermann and Cage, Death Dealer are a true heavy metal force to be reckoned with, and 'Hallowed Ground' certainly proves this.

The follow-up to their over-the-top debut, 'Warmaster,' features vocalist Sean Peck, guitarists Ross the Boss and Stu Marshall, bassist Mike Davis, and drummer Steve Bolognese, and as always, Death Dealer is setting out to convert the metal masses to their brand of manly metal.
And what better way to announce the arrival of 'Hallowed Ground' then with a killer all-metal cruise? Ross the Boss: "Death Dealer is absolutely so excited and pumped to be a part of this fantastic line-up! Plus, Lemmy is God and we all love him!”

Bleed The Hunger Klassik Hard Rock Band Of Neil Turbin And Jonas Hornqvist Release New Song

Bleed The Hunger – Brand new hard rockin’ klassik rock band from Neil Turbin (DeathRiders, Onslaught, x-Anthrax) - Vocals and Jonas Hornqvist (Treasure Land, Calilio) - Guitar (http://soundcloud.com/bleed-the-hunger) -- releases brand new song “Hard Rockin’ Machine” at http://reverbnation.com/bleedthehunger.

Neil is replacing Sy Keeler (whose son has been stricken with severe illness) on Onslaught Thrash Invasion Tour 2014 US, Canada, Brazil, Chile.  Bleed The Hunger will resume recording their debut album after completion of the Onslaught Artillery VX36 Tour.
Bleed The Hunger was formed in early 2014, with two friends, Jonas Hornqvist and Neil Turbin, both songwriters and musicians, who have been collaborating and writing together for ten years. Jonas and Neil started writing some dynamic new songs that didn't quite fit into the mold of Jonas' progressive metal band, Treasure Land, or the speed and power that would fit into DeathRiders.  After just completing his third master guitar instruction book, http://www.melbay.com/Products/30405BCD/soloing-techniques-for-electric-guitar.aspx and a movie soundtrack, Jonas sent some rough song sketches and demos. When Neil heard them, he was very inspired to record these super melodic hard rock songs.

"We are working on completing the rest of the songs on the album and are more than halfway there, already.  What we have is inspired melodic Klassik Hard Rock that comes from our hard rockin' roots." - Neil Turbin

Neil Turbin (DeathRiders, Ex-Anthrax) And Jonas Hornqvist (Treasure Land) Form Klassic Hard Rock Band, Bleed The Hunger

July 7, 2014 - Los Angeles, CA. -- DeathRiders vocalist and original Anthrax vocalist, Neil Turbin has announced his musical partnership with Treasure Land guitarist, Jonas Hornqvist.  Under the name, Bleed The Hunger, they have begun recording songs for their debut release.  Listen at http://soundcloud.com/bleed-the-hunger.

Bleed The Hunger was formed in early 2014, when two friends, Jonas Hornqvist and Neil Turbin, both songwriters and musicians, who have been collaborating and writing together for ten years, started writing some dynamic, new songs, that didn't quite fit into the mold of Jonas' progressive metal band, Treasure Land or the speed and power that would fit into DeathRiders.  After just completing his third master guitar instruction book http://www.melbay.com/Products/30405BCD/soloing-techniques-for-electric-guitar.aspx and a movie soundtrack for an independent film, Jonas sent some rough song sketches and demos to Neil. When Neil heard them, he was very inspired, and said to Jonas, "This is super, melodic hard rock.  Let's record them all."

"The songwriting chemistry between Jonas and I has evolved to be very intuitive, cohesive and dynamic, while still maintaining the melodic detail of our sound signature, no matter what style of song," said Turbin.  "The musical chemistry is strong, and is always fun, exciting and challenging--what new, even better song we will come up with next.  Staying true within the realm of what we do best, we are completing more songs as we speak, for an album, and we have already recorded enough for an EP.  What we have, is inspired, melodic Klassik Hard Rock, that comes from our hard-rockin' roots."

Jonas grew up listening to bands like KISS, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Gary Moore and Neil grew up going to NYC hard rock concerts in 1980 with Vendetta, Mayday, Starz, Twisted Sister, Riot as well as listening in the 1970’s to Free, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Motorhead, KISS, Scorpions, UFO, Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Montrose, Boston, Kansas, and Foreigner.

"We thought long and hard about coming up with a name that was original and speaks for itself about the music and vibe.  I can't tell you how many were shot down for months, and gave us some good laughs.  We hope you like the tunes as much as we were passionate about making them.  Horns Up!  \m/(><)\m/ "
