Megadeth To Perform On Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday Night

Heavy Metal titans Megadeth will take a break from the hugely-successful Super Collider World Tour to appear on ABC‚s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, Dec. 16.  Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. EST on ABC. For more info, visit ABC.go.com. Megadeth previously appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Halloween in 2011, where they performed in full costume to celebrate the release of their album „TH1RT3EN‰.

A band that always does the unexpected, Megadeth recently paid tribute to late country music legend George Jones at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.  Playin' Possum: The Final NO SHOW! was to be Jones' final career performance.  Megadeth shared the stage with over 100 notable country, rock and R&B artists including George Strait, Alan Jackson, Kid Rock, Garth Brooks, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and more.  Their performance was a moving duet featuring Jamey Johnson covering Jones' "Wild Irish Rose", a ballad lamenting the postwar trauma of a homeless Vietnam war veteran.

"As expected, attendees didn‚t much know what to make of strange bedfellows Jamey Johnson and Megadeth, who brought a hint of heavy metal to a cover of Jones' Celtic-tinged 1998 lost classic "Wild Irish Rose." Showing restraint, the band steered clear of blast beats and finger-tapped solos, and singer Dave Mustaine ˆ confident though way out of his comfort zone ˆ dialed back his trademark high-pitched howl, giving perhaps the most subtle vocal performance of his career, and one that was undeniably unique." ˜ Adam Gold, RollingStone.com

"The performances ranged from faithful renditions of hits like Alan Jackson's take on "He Stopped Loving Her Today," [George] Strait and Martina McBride's "Grand Tour" to Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton's "I Barely Get By" and [Sam] Moore's "Blues Man." But the show also featured unlikely teamups ˜ like Megadeth and Jamey Johnson taking on "Wild Irish Rose."

"Heavy metal is all about rebellion, and George was definitely a rebel," Megadeth lead singer Dave Mustaine said. ˜ Chris Talbott, Associated Press

The long-awaited Super Collider World Tour kicked off in St. Paul, Minn., on Nov. 23 and is currently criss-crossing the country before heading abroad to Australia, Sweden and England in 2014 (full touring schedule below).

Here‚s what critics are saying about the Super Collider Tour:
"It is nothing short of amazing to watch them shred live like no other artists out there today. Frontman and guitarist, Dave Mustaine is a beast on the strings, laying waste to his axe... Music has been known to evoke emotions and memories of different times in our lives, but it‚s a real feat for a performance to spark a visceral reaction in the gut by instruments alone. This is not to say that the lyrics do not speak to some, but personally, it was all about the music (and visuals)... If you haven't had a chance to see Megadeth live, make the time. It will likely be one of the most sonically evocative shows you'll see this year, possibly ever." ˜ Patricia Jones, Examiner.com

"Raw and relentless, Megadeth took the stage by force as they always do. After three years and two albums together, this line-up is well-oiled metal machine that's showing no signs of rusting in peace anytime soon." ˜ Matt Bishop, TheRockRevival.com

"After seeing Megadeth several times in the past few years, their command onstage and their hold on their fans has grown stronger. Not to mention the crowd gets wilder, bigger and more diverse. Dave Mustaine and the rest of his crew have created memorable songs that will inspire and entertain future generations to come." ˜ Liz Ramanand, Loudwire

„Megadeth showed up Saturday night in Bethlehem and delivered the kind of performance one would expect from the metal vets: loud, heavy and intense.‰ ˜ Dustin Schoof, The Express-Times

„But everyone should know that the fountain of youth isn‚t diet or exercise or the vitamins you see on late night infomercials. The fountain of youth is listening to heavy f*cking metal and going crazy at metal shows, and no one plays heavy f*cking metal concerts better and crazier than Dave Mustaine and Megadeth.‰ ˜ Elliot Levin, Examiner.com

Review - Megadeth- Super Collider (Universal Music)

For all intents and purposes Megadeth have been trying to top Countdown To Extinction since '92. That album ticked all the boxes- not too many songs, all killer, varied, great production and just under 50 minutes. Since then we've gotten the samey Youthanasia, too varied Risk, lengthy The World Needs A Hero and the not enough killer The System Has Failed. Then Mustaine woke up, maybe it was all his own brand coffee he was drinking. The last 3 releases in my opinion have been superb.

Now it feels like a band again with Junior back on bass and the ever dependable Chris Broderick and Shawn Drover recording a Megadeth album with the same line up since Cryptic Writings. It's still Mustaine's band though and his fingerprints are all over Super Collider. He wrote the bulk of the material alone, gets a co-producers credit and am sure he picked the colour of the toilet paper in the studio bathroom. Is it any good though?

I think it's fantastic but I get where some fans are coming from who can't seem to get past Rust In Peace. So let's use Countdown as a blueprint. Not too many songs (check), all killer (well.....maybe depending on the listener), varied (Kingmaker does not sound like The Blackest Crow), great production (absolutely) and just under 50 minutes. It's heavy too with no sign of a Crush 'Em anywhere. I'll be consistent and say Thin Lizzy's Cold Sweat should not have been on the cd, I'm not a fan of covers on studio albums but it's far from shit. The two Best Buy bonus tracks are just that, a nice but not better addition to the original 10 cuts. Improves with repeated plays too.

So there you have it. Another solid set of songs from Mustaine's never ending well. Four studio releases in six years is not to be sniffed at and there's no sign of extinction any time soon. One final thing, the cut and paste band photos look crap much like the ones on 13 and can someone tell me where Shawn Drover is in the super collider photo under the cd.

Richie.
