Frost & Fire Festival Set To Bring America's Finest Traditional Heavy Metal Bands To Ventura

There is no denying that Europe has been the heavy metal hotbed on this planet for several decades, particularly when it comes to the traditional forms of the musical style: clean vocals, soaring guitar harmonies, and galloping rhythms. Even though America has proven time and again that it can produce world-class bands in the old-school metal realm and that it has the die-hard fans to support the genre, occurrences of all-out traditional heavy metal festivals have been few and far between, if any. But metalheads can now rejoice, as the beach town of Ventura, California is set to host a festival exactly of this nature on October 17, 2015 at Bombay Bar & Grill, featuring a hefty lineup of scintillating talent from all over America.

The festival will be headlined by Wichita, Kansas veterans, Manilla Road, who shall satiate their legion of followers with a sizable set of selections from their revered catalog. As direct support is a rare, special concert appearance by Tucson, Arizona metal cult heroes, Ashbury, performing their seminal record 'Endless Skies' in its entirety. Hometown mainstays, Night Demon, slot in third on this epic bill, summoning the Southern California faithful to get down to the ritual of drinking from their NWOBHM chalice and bask in the old-school righteousness of tunes from their Century Media debut full-length release 'Curse Of The Damned' as well as their self-titled EP. Metal Blade recording artists, Visigoth, from Salt Lake City, Utah, will set foot to reconquer these lands once again with musical tales of battle, and female-fronted Louisville, Kentucky-based Savage Master will cast a spell with their occult-themed metal sorcery.

Rounding out the 10-band lineup is BAT (Richmond, VA) featuring Ryan Waste of Municipal Waste, Los Angeles-based Metal Blade Records alumni Steel Prophet with guest vocalist Neil Turbin, Ventura's fantasy-themed rock 'n' roll quartet Gygax, Blade Killer (Los Angeles), Helion Prime (Sacramento, CA) and Wolfcross (Los Angeles, CA). As if this already isn't reason enough for old-school metalheads to attend, Tim Baker and Robert Garven, members of the mighty, ever-elusive Cirith Ungol, will be doing a meet-n-greet session. To say that this is a must-attend for fans of the genre would be the understatement of the year, and the event is not only expected to draw locals, but is also poised to welcome travelers from all corners of the country and beyond.

To purchase tickets and for more information, visit http://www.frostandfirefest.com.

For out of town guests, we have secured a discount rate at the Clocktower Inn (three blocks from the venue).  Just mention the name "Frost and Fire" upon booking to receive a reduced rate for your hotel stay the weekend of the festival.

Manilla Road's classic 'Out of the Abyss' to be reissued via Shadow Kingdom Records

Shadow Kingdom Records will reissue Out of the Abyss, the seventh full-length release from Wichita, KS’ MANILLA ROAD on January 13, 2015. Originally released in 1988, Out of the Abyss is an under-appreciated gem, one that guitarist/founder Mark “The Shark” Shelton describes in the reissue’s liner notes as containing “some of the most brutal material that MR has ever done. Shelton goes on to say that “it was the last album in an epic quest by Randy, Scott and I to be as fast and furious as possible with some of the songs…and most of the topics were quite dark and based on Cthulhun mythos or other horror and mystery directions.”

Shadow Kingdom Records’ Tim McGrogan had this to say about Out of the Abyss:

“Most fans think the golden era is Crystal Logic through Mystification, but we encourage fans to spend more time with this album. The first thing that’s interesting about this album is that it originally contained one of MANILLA ROAD greatest Epic songs ever, “The Book of Skelos.” The song was dropped off of the album for some unknown reason (that would be a good interview question for Mark Shelton), and later appeared on a different pressing of The Courts of Chaosand we’re not entirely sure that song even made it to the first pressing of that album either. Strangely enough if you’re familiar with that song and can imagine that song being a part of this album, Out of the Abysswould arguably be one of the best MANILLA ROAD albums and would have expanded and been part of what’s now considered their classic era. The album is dark, evil, thrash-y heavy metal with some killer KING DIAMOND-esque vocal screams. Without a doubt Out of the Abysshas some of the fastest, most intense Thrash Metal not only on any MANILLA ROAD album, but of any 80’s Thrash Metal album.

Out of the Abyss will appeal to fans SLAYER, METALLICA, IRON MAIDEN, and MERCYFUL FATE.

CONVENT GUILT to Release 'Guns for Hire' on Shadow Kingdom Records January 13

On January 13, 2015 Australian Heavy Metal Warriors CONVENT GUILT will release Guns for Hire on CD and digital formats through Shadow Kingdom Records. Pure, righteous, and incredibly catchy, this is Heavy Metal!

Shadow Kingdom Records' Tim McGrogan had this to say about Guns for Hire:

"We cannot wait for everyone to check out CONVENT GUILT Australia's Traditional Heavy Metal scene is truly impressive to the Shadow Kingdom Records family. We just don't see good Heavy Metal coming out from there; we see outstanding Heavy Metal that exceeds our expectations, just like like fellow countrymen, JOHNNY TOUCH. CONVENT GUILT has an 80's Punk flair that sometimes dominates their sound. They have a strong mix of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal bands like IRON MAIDEN and SAXON, while MOTORHEAD is heard feathered throughout, along with a heavy dose of 80's JUDAS PRIEST and 70's AC/DC. The songs are extremely catchy and well crafted. On top of all of that, this band sounds like they've been recording together forever with their amazing sound and production. Guns for Hire is one of the most accessible releases of 2014. We're thrilled and proud to have this band on the roster. The album cover is nothing short of amazing. Check out the bundle package to get a CD and T-SHIRT at the Shadow Kingdom Records online store."

Shadow Kingdom Records to Reissue "The Awakening" from 80s U.S. Metallers Powerlord August 19

Shadow Kingdom Records have uncovered another gem from the U.S. 80's metal era. This time it's a remastered reissue of The Awakening from U.S. Speed/Thrash Metal group POWERLORD, which will be released on August 19.

POWERLORD was one of those bands that popped up out of nowhere and completely fell off into obscurity. Out of all of the rare 80s US Metal diamonds, POWERLORD is arguably the very best at what they do. Their sound falls somewhere between SAVAGE GRACE and SLAYER and features professionally delivered, well written songs of the Speed/Thrash Metal variety.  The Shadow Kingdom folks re-mastered the tracks directly from the original master tapes, but since a lot of the band's memories were lost when High Vaultage Records (an obscure German label) tried to re-issue the album, there is not much in the way of bonus, band photos, or memorabilia that could be included. Intact however is the most important thing: the music! And it sounds amazing! The Awakening represents what 80's Metal was all about. The potential to be a much bigger band was there. Alas, it wasn't to be and POWERLORD was lost in the wave of thrash that spawned the likes of METALLICA. One spin of The Awakening and you too will ponder what could have been.

Shadow Kingdom Records Releasing 'The Lost Legacy' 2CD Retrospective from Sweden's Zone Zero on July 8

Shadow Kingdom Records has announced the Release of a 2CD career retrospective package from Swedish '80s Heavy Metal group ZONE ZERO on July 8.

Comprised of live recordings, rehearsal tracks and studio cuts - including three more recent songs recorded in 2008 - this collection captures the magic of a band heavily influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, but somehow fell through the cracks of that burgeoning scene. Shadow Kingdom Records now seeks to turn the unknown into the known with The Lost Legacy.

Shadow Kingdom Records owner Tim McGrogran comments on the package:
"It would be a rare case if anyone were even aware of Zone Zero as they only put out one Single and a few demo tapes in the early 80s before disbanding. In the land of early Swedish Heavy Metal, the very first and most important band was without question Heavy Load, who started in the late 70s. With that said, Zone Zero does have a very strong Heavy Load influence and were also influenced by Judas Priest and the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. There were quite a few bands that popped up in the early 80's in Europe that could have easily been a part of the N.W.O.B.H.M. but they weren't because that period of time only included England. This package includes their entire career, which started in 1980 and includes the band re-uniting for 3 brand new songs that were recorded in 2008."

Shadow Kingdom Records to Release Album from Obscure 80s Death Metallers Terminal Death on July 8

Shadow Kingdom Records has announced the upcoming release of a CD's worth of demo and rehearsal material from obscure 80s Death Metal group TERMINAL DEATH on July 8. A vinyl LP version will also be released in tandem with Hells Headbangers Records.

Based on the material, the Chicago band should have gotten high praise across the globe, but fell through the cracks without a proper record label deal. That all changes now, as fans of early SEPULTURA, DEATH, and POSSESSED are in for a real treat. In addition to the remastered material, a nicely assembled CD booklet includes a detailed interview by Laurent of Snakepit Magazine.

Shadow Kingdom Records owner Tim McGrogan shared these words about the release:
"When you talk about the earliest Death Metal bands, we think of SEPULTURA, DEATH, POSSESSED (all stemming from VENOM) right off the top, but there were a few ripping bands that quickly fell into obscurity and TERMINAL DEATH is one of those bands. This is not just an obscure band; they could have been a HUGE Death Metal band if they were signed to the right label back then. They certainly had all of the talent of the aforementioned bands. Their 1985 Demo tape screams with energy and intensity!  This collection is another snapshot of that amazing early Slayer-esque Death Metal. Co-founder Shaun Glass, whom also co-founded SINDROME, later joined the more well-known classic Death Metal band BROKEN HOPE in the early 1990's. Shadow Kingdom Records also teamed up with Hells Headbangers Records to release this lost gem as a Double LP. If you're into vinyl, keep your eyes peeled for it will be a glorified presentation."

REVELATION: "Salvation's Answer" to be Reissued by Shadow Kingdom Records April 29

Shadow Kingdom Records will reissue a Doom Metal classic called Salvation's Answer from Baltimore's REVELATION on April 29. Shadow Kingdom's Tim McGrogan gives us the rundown:

"Shadow Kingdom Records is thrilled to finally re-issue a groundbreaking 90's Doom Metal classic - REVELATION - Salvation's Answer! This was originally released on the classic Rise Above Records all the way back in 1991. It was one of their first releases when they started the label. Even today, there's nothing quite like this album, a lost gem stuck in the sands of time. Very few bands have been influenced by REVELATION's unique brand of Progressive Doom Metal. This is a special album that will only attract people who are really looking for sub-basement classics."

Salvation's Answer is streaming now at shadowkingdomrecords.bandcamp.com.

Shadow Kingdom Records to Reissue Manilla Road's "Mystification" April 29

Shadow Kingdom Records has announced the latest in a string of brilliant Manilla Road reissues with the Wichita, Kan., band's sixth album, Mystification.

Manilla Road's official sixth full-length is the last of what many longtime fans consider as their most classic period. Albums Crystal Logic, Open the Gates, The Deluge and Mystification are considered by many to be the bands best years. Even though they're one of the very few long time running Heavy Metal bands that are still putting out great records, those four albums are the golden years. Mystification marks Manilla Road's first foray into the realm of Thrash Metal. The band has played with faster tempos on previous album, but this is a record that delivers an intensity comparable to early Slayer. Manilla Road mainman Mark Shelton proves himself to be one of Heavy Metal's most skilled songwriters with this flawless mix of classic and thrash metal.

This reissue is noteworthy for being the first edition of Mystification to be released on CD in the original song order along with the original mixing and mastering. This will be a huge treat for fans that have never heard the album this way because the re-issue done in the year 2000, was mixed and mastered differently along with the track order switched around. You'll finally be able to hear the way it was originally was back in 1987!

Shadow Kingdom Records Announce Special 2 CD Reissue of Pale Divine's "Cemetery Earth"

Shadow Kingdom Records is proud to announce a special double-CD reissue of PALE DIVINE's 2007 release Cemetery Earth on February 18 .The fully remastered Cemetery Earth album is contained on disc one, while disc two contains Demo 2006, as well as live and rehearsal material.

Shadow Kingdom owner Tim McGrogran had this to say about the reissue:

"The third Pale Divine album is probably right where the band envisioned their sound to be when they first started their career. They are the masters at blending 70s psychedelic blues jamming with sinister dark heavy traditional doom metal. There are not too many bands that are able to do what they can do which makes them the big fish in a small pond if you're into Psych/Doom. The guitar leads sweep you away, but also gently bring you back to the heart of the song. The addition of John Gaffney (songwriter for Sinister Realm) on bass added different dimension to this album that helped them grow as a band."

CORSAIR Launches Kickstarter Campaign for European Tour

US-based prog rock/metal outfit CORSAIR has launched a campaign with Kickstarter.com to help fund the band's upcoming European tour. In exchange for your support, the band is offering a wide selection of music, merch, personalized messages & photos, music lessons, personal performances and more. The purposed tour itinerary would have the band trekking across the European countryside from February 20 - March 16. Details and a complete rundown of expenses and perks can be found at the link below.

CORSAIR SHREDS: European Tour Campaign:

After five years together, two EPs (Alpha Centauri 2010, Ghosts of Proxima Centauri 2011) and a full length (Corsair 2012) CORSAIR was picked up by Shadow Kingdom Records in 2012. By mid-2013, SKR had re-released all of the band's material and the Berlin-based High Roller Records was slated to press their entire catalogue on vinyl. This garnered the band much attention from reviewers and magazines all over the world, bringing high praise and features in publications such as Decibel Magazine (U.S), Rock Hard Magazine (Germany) and Terrorizer Magazine (U.K.). CORSAIR is currently hard at work prepping for their upcoming European tour and have plans to tour the U.S. and record a new album upon return. For more on CORSAIR, visit the links below.

Praise for CORSAIR

"This co-ed Virginia quartet's first full-length is as confident and realized a debut as has come down the metal pike in many a moon. Two instrumentals ignite midway between '70s fusion and '80s Metallica; seven songs with words alternately set mythic D&D play-by-play to relaxed NWOBHM or the toastiness, tunefulness, rhythm and calm of classic Thin Lizzy. Criss-crossing guitars of Paul Sebring and Marie Landragin warm prog intricacy with blues á la the great lost Chicago band Winterhawk. Landragin finally takes vocal reins in "The Desert," and closes the set traversing Yes-like topography."- Chuck Eddy, Rhapsody

"The Ghosts of Proxima Centauri are plenty haunting, and one gets the sense that Corsair have the means to make the most of their growth in the time to come. Hope to catch them at Beta Centauri or coming to a star system near you." TheObelisk.net

"At the intersection of Clutch, Thin Lizzy and Hawkwind lies Corsair, with their beautifully vintage guitar tones, emphasis on often-harmonized leads and solos, drifting and yet energetic prog-jam tendencies, and hints of hazy psychedelia." - Last Rites

"Ghosts of Proxima Centauri is unique work I can't recommend highly enough - I mean, Slough Feg, Falcon AND ELO?? Get outta here! Great, unique sound, 'Adventure Rock' supreme!!" - Hellride Music

"Yes: beautiful, is not Ynwie-Malmsteen-dudelig. We are talking about very tasteful, fresh, intelligent composed riffs that you want to hear again and again. So was the 1983 Iron Maiden also: They wanted to replace the same record over and over again. And so what happens truly not often nowadays!" [9/10]

Italian Doom Metal that influenced Paul Chain. Classic, dusty, dark recording. Essential 80's Doom!

NIGROMANTE - Black Magic Night - Release Date: January 7, 2014
New band from Spain. Classic styled Heavy Metal for fans of Venom, Motorhead, and Anvil! Super thick guitar tone...very heavy, fun, and memorable!

Check Out Shadow Kingdom Records Releases from 2013:

COVEN - Destiny of the Gods
Amazing Doom/Punk/Heavy Metal. There is no other band on the planet that sounds remotely close to them. They've created their own genre.

FUNERAL CIRCLE - Funeral Circle
Canadian Epic Doom Metal that will capture fans of Candlemass, Black Sabbath, Cirith Ungol. The vocals are mix of different styles which make it sound unique and amazing.

LOST BREED - Save Yourself & The Evil in You and Me (sold individually)
Wino / The Obsessed- inspired Doom Rock that featured Wino himself at one point. Fans of Saint Vitus, Soundgarden, The Obsessed, etc will dig this. This sounds more like Maryland Doom Metal, than their New York roots would suggest.

THE MEZMERIST - The Innocent, The Forsaken, The Guilty
The most insane heavy metal find of all time. Besides a handful of people knowing, who would have guessed we could find a band with Bill Ward playing drums on it? Fans of King Diamond, Cirith Ungol, and Frank Marino take notice. Psychedelic Metal with the most famous and influential drummer in metal!

NIGHT DEMON - Night Demon
Fantastic, fun and energetic US Metal band that lives and breathes the N.W.O.B.H.M. If you love anything from that era, don't miss out on Night Demon. For fans of Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Raven, etc.

SINISTER REALM - World of Evil
Another incredible-sounding, pure Heavy Metal album from this amazingly consistent band. You cannot find one bad review of any of their albums anywhere. If you like 80s Heavy Metal, Sinister Realm does it better than most of the Traditional Metal bands did back then.

THE VEIN - Scouring the Wreckage of Time
Jaw-dropping Death/Doom Metal featuring members of Altar of Oblivion. Imagine the same massive tones of AoO churning out 90s-styled, death-laden Doom and there you have it! Quality all the way.

Also released in 2013 were newalbums, re-releases, and unearthed gems from CORSAIR, CARDINALS FOLLY, MANILLA ROAD, REVELATION, DARK QUARTERER, BOLDER DAMN, DECEPTOR, and PAGAN ALTAR. Visit the links below for more info.

NIGROMANTE: Spanish Heavy Metal Act to Release "Black Magic Night" January 7 on Shadow Kingdom Records

Shadow Kingdom Records is proud to introduce NIGROMANTE! The Classic Heavy Metal Spaniards will release Black Magic Night through Shadow Kingdom on January 7.
SKR Commander Tim McGrogran had this to say about the band and album:
"They've been around since 2003 trying to perfect their Heavy Metal sound. Spain hasn't exactly been a melting pot for Classic Heavy Metal, so we're very lucky to find such a great band there. NIGROMANTE are the big fish in the small pond over there. They are from Spain, but they're absolutely influenced by the N.W.O.B.H.M. and 80's US Metal. The vocals are more barbaric, very much like Portugal's IRONSWORD. The guitar tone on this album is so thick and abrasive, which creates a great heavy metal pounding atmosphere. The songs are well crafted and extremely catchy. They have so many influences from ANVIL, MOTORHEAD, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, a tinge of old 80's Black Metal, and many more."

The band has posted a lyric video for the track "Heavy Metal Age" at this location.

Shadow Kingdom Records Announces the Release of LOST BREED Reissues

Continuing with its knack for unearthing hidden treasures, Shadow Kingdom Records has announced the October 15 reissues of The Evil in You and Me and Save Yourself from 90s' Doom Rockers LOST BREED. Both albums have been remastered for maximum sonic power. Shadow Kingdom Records owner Tim McGrogran gives us a little LOST BREED history and the details behind each album.

"Back in the 80s it was fairly common for bands to move to LA to try and make it big. LOST BREED is among the many bands that made that trip from NY to LA. They soon met up with the legendary Scott 'Wino' Weinrich, whom at the time had already had two SAINT VITUS records under his belt, was soon to be releasing a third SAINT VITUS record, and was also in the process of restarting THE OBSESSED. Even with all of those irons in the fire, he started writing and jamming with LOST BREED. With his main roots and influence coming from the Maryland Doom Metal scene, it's no surprise that LOST BREED fits right in there stylistically. With that said, Wino did lay a nice foundation for the band to build and grow from. Wino only appears on their first Demo and doesn't appear on either album since at some point he probably realized he had too much going on and two bands to focus on were enough. With all of the music out there, it's going to be a big surprise for people who haven't heard this band yet. They have extremely unusual songwriting skills that not only make you scratch your head, but also bang your head at the same time. Once the music of LOST BREED settles in, it's quite the listening experience and after a while you might think to yourself 'How does something that sounds so complex and disjointed work together so well?' So, what does this sound like? We're still trying to figure this out. In short, it just does, but if you're looking for a reference point, then start with THE OBSESSED and some old SOUNDGARDEN and play both records at the same time. The Evil in You and Me is arguably the first "Doom Rock" album to ever exist. Some might call it 'Stoner Rock' (we wouldn't agree), but whatever it is, it's pretty groundbreaking."

"Save Yourself picks right up where The Evil in You and Me ends. This album is a little more straightforward in the songwriting department, but it still has that quirky charm about it. It's probably a little more doomy and with that a little more accessible than The Evil in You and Me. Both Save Yourself and The Evil in You and Me are essential and you definitely need both if you like this style of music. These guys might have had a short-lived career, but we probably got the cream of the crop out of them before they called it quits. They were a band that came out at the wrong time when the world wasn't ready for them. It's a shame because if they were more well known, they would probably influence a ton of bands. The one thing that's great about LOST BREED is that this stuff never gets stale. You discover something new with each listen and after years of hearing them, the well of new sounds never runs dry."

COVEN 13: 'Destiny of the Gods' Coming November 19 via Shadow Kingdom Records

Shadow Kingdom Records has announced a November 19 worldwide
release date for Destiny of the Gods, the new album from Detroit's Doom
Metal Juggernaut COVEN (also known as COVEN 13). Get a taste of
the madness by streaming album cuts "Thor's Twins" and "Walpurgisnacht"

Shadow Kingdom Records' Tim McGrogan had this to say about the
upcoming monolith,

"There have been quite a few old 80's bands that have reformed and wrote
a new album that turned out badly. With that said, we feel for those bands
that have fallen flat on their faces because it's very hard to pick up after
such a long hiatus and create something that not only pays homage to
what your roots are, but also brings something new and exciting to the
table. That's the trick to creating a new album after being out of the scene
for a long time. Very few bands have come back from the grave to make
something on par or even better than what they've done in the past. It might
be hard for the fans to swallow this, but Coven is among the very few
bands over the past couple years that have created another masterpiece
that stands right up next to the classic Worship New Gods! At first we
weren't sure what they wrote because they have such unusual songwriting
skills, but as this sunk in, its greatness unveiled itself. There's really no
other band in the world that sounds like Coven. They have so many
strange influences that create so many obscure sounds that it couldn't be
copied even if another band tried."
