Shadow Host was created at the end of 1993 by guitarist Alexey Arzamazov in Moscow. They became one of the first Russian bands to play melodic power/speed metal. Their debut release Twilight Legend came into the light in 1997. Soon after their next release, Neverland, an important event occurred which skyrocketed the band to a considerable new level - Shadow Host performed on Luzhniki arena as the opening act for their idols, Blind Guardian. Performances with bands such as Grave Digger, Stratovarius and Nightwish followed. Shadow Host continued their concerts on large stages before foreign musicians: Edguy and Gamma Ray became the next milestones after the release of their third studio album, Curse Of The Angeleye in 2005. This album had already a much heavier feel.

The release of the band, titled Bringer Of Revenge, became the logical continuation from the predecessor, came out in 2011. The music became even faster and more aggressive, and, in essence, turned to melodic thrash metal. Soon after the release of this album, the position behind the microphone was taken up by Alexey Markov (also STARSOUP), the band started out on a tour and played several significant concerts, including as the opening act for the legendary thrashers Annihilator and Overkill. At the start of 2013, Shadow Host released the EP Demon Hunter, and, at the end of the year, a whole two releases: the EP Lunacy Divine and the follow-up full-length album Apocalyptic Symphony, - to this day the fastest, heaviest, and best-quality release by the band.

AUSTRALIAN ROCKERS MASSIVE SIGN WITH EARACHE RECORDS

Earache Records is proud to announce the signing of Aussie high-octane rockers MASSIVE to a multi-album recording deal which covers the world minus Australia.

The four-piece formed in Melbourne in 2012 with the aim of making the loudest, fastest and ballsiest rock 'n' roll around that hits you hard and leaves you begging for more.  Drawing on influences from the likes of GUNS N' ROSES and AC/DC, MASSIVE are notorious road dogs, famously travelling over a thousand miles for a single show, and were once kicked out of a Los Angeles hotel following a riotous show after inviting the whole crowd back for an impromptu after-party.

Minotauro Records to Release OGRE's "The Last Neanderthal"

Recharged Italian label Minotauro Records has announced the upcoming release of The Last Neanderthal from Portland, Maine's heavy metal doom rockers OGRE on February 21 in Europe and March 8 in North America. 

The band's fourth full-length release continues OGRE's splendid combination of classic proto-metal (BLACK SABBATH, BUDGIE, DUST), a touch of '70s prog rock (most notably RUSH), and a heaping dose of vintage doom (SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM). The Last Neanderthal even includes a cover of "Soulless Woman" by a different OGRE, a '70s bar band from the Pacific Northwest.

OGRE will celebrate the release of The Last Neanderthal with a CD Release show on March 14 at Geno's Rock Club in Portland, Maine. For show details, click HERE. 

OGRE formed in 1999 when Ed Cunningham (bass/vocals) joined forces with Ross Markonish (guitar) and Will Broadbent (drums), who had been playing together in several bands in the Portland, Maine music scene.  Together, Ed, Ross, and Will quickly wrote and recorded a 4-track demo cassette that garnered high praise in the underground doom metal and stoner-rock community.

 In 2003, the band self-released its first full length, Dawn of the Proto-Man, to critical acclaim. The disc created enough buzz to get noticed by Japan's Leafhound Records, who put out the band's second and third albums, Seven Hells in 2006 and Plague of the Planet in 2008, the latter album being reissued by Shadow Kingdom Records in 2009. After a decade of playing shows up and down the East Coast as well abroad (Japan Tour with Church of Misery and Blood Farmers in 2008), OGRE returned to its cave in September 2009.  

Coaxed out of hibernation after several years, the band played a handful of local shows and began writing new material that would eventually comprise its fourth album, The Last Neanderthal, to be released by Minotauro Records (Italy) in March 2014.  As one of the first currently active bands to be signed to the newly-recharged Minotauro, OGRE is ready to stampede into the next phase of its career.

Some Random Thoughts On Stuff

1. Listening a lot to Mike Tramp's latest cd Cobblestone Street. All acoustic and not metal but just because it's plugged in doesn't mean it's good. This is good, really good because it has the songs and not the fluff.

2. Watched That Metal Show with Lamb Of God, probably the best show I've seen this season. I'm not a Lamb Of God fan at all but what happened to Randy Blythe was just wrong on so many counts and the upcoming documentary and book is compelling.

3. Read two music related books recently. The first was Alex Skolnick's From Geek To Guitar Hero. Self-written and an excellent read. His upbringing was bizarre to say the least and was a major factor in how he dealt with many situations later in life. Great detail about his time in Testament and some funny as fuck road stories. Get it. Not as impressed with Lou Gramm's Juke Box Hero, My Five Decades In Rock And Roll. Sorry Lou but at just over 200 pages that's not going to cut it. The Mick Jones stuff has been told before on many occasions. The first couple of Foreigner albums are covered pretty well but from there on it's all potatoes and no meat when it comes to the band. The drummer Dennis Elliot gets little mention and bassist Rick Wills hardly any meaningful words. As for Shadow King with Vivian Campbell. That's two paragraphs. Bah humbug. The personal health issues are however written well and like me Lou has great affinity for his last Foreigner album Mr. Moonlight. A skeleton read compared to Alex's.

4. No Kiss performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Like me it looks like they don't give a fuck either.

5. Aerosmith's Music From Another Dimension is in front of me. I've listened to the first seven songs. Once. Plus I bought the deluxe version. Thing came out on November 2012. I've heard a couple of songs from the last Alice in Chains and Death Angel cds and they are the deluxe versions too. I will get around to it I just have to be in the right mood. The Alter Bridge Fortress album was the same, sat there a while then I put it on and couldn't take it off it was that good.

Chicago, Illinois heavy metal band Hessler, would like to welcome their new singer, Jessikill. Following former vocalist Lariyah Daniels departure, she was the perfect fit for the music and personality of the band. NEW YORK METALLISTS MARTYRD ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES WITH THRASH METAL TRAILBLAZERS AND METAL CHURCH

Fresh off the release of their newest single and video “Faceless,” New York

City's Martyrd has announced that they will be doing several shows with Metal

Church - a band that is often considered to be one of the trailblazers of the

thrash metal movement, and responsible for penning such headbanging classics as

"Watch the Children Pray."

"I love Metal Church!" exclaims Martyrd guitarist, Michael Andreas. "Their heavy

melodic sound has definitely had a huge influence on me as a musician, and I'm

no-nonsense - it comes in pounding right off the bat, and then makes a statement

with that heavy verse riff. There’s definitely a lot of heaviness, in fact, I

think Aaron in particular has never sounded so heavy. But there’s also harmony

February 17, 2014  Cincinnati, Ohio --The Warriors of Metal, Inc. non-profit organization has announced the return of one of last year's most well-received performers. Fort Wayne, Ind., progressive metal act VALHALLA has been added to the already stacked lineup of Warriors Of Metal Fest VII, set to take place June 27  - 28 at O'Shecky's Live Bar & Grill in Columbus, Ohio.

After celebrating their 30th Anniversary as a band and the release of their latest monumental release "Motherland", the Danish melodic hard rockers are serving the fans with "Louder Than Ever". This is not a completely new album but consists of seven re-recorded classic songs from the 1995 - 2006 era plus five brand new songs specially written for this record and a special bonus DVD including archive footage from the 80's, brand new interviews and plenty of cool material for the fans!

"The reason for doing this project is to give those songs a different spin with the band and producer we have now" explains singer Ronnie Atkins. It is an in-between album until the band completes the next studio album with new tunes.

Pretty Maids will appear in the spring and summer in selected dates in support of the new album's release.

Italian death/thrashers OMNIVORE have unleashed their self-titled debut album through Unspeakable Axe Records. This blood-soaked slab of old-school thrash aggression is now available at www.unspeakableaxerecords.com.

Like their name suggests, OMNIVORE are equal-opportunity devourers. Their raging full-length shows that they clearly consumed old death/thrash acts from Europe and the U.S. - think Massacra, Merciless, and Sadus - as well as the more-familiar Bay Area bands, represented here by the use of gang vocals, some melodic lead parts, and even a startlingly well-played acoustic passage.  Of course, one of their biggest influences is revealed by the hidden bonus track at the end, a cover song that implores you to "Arise!"

Hailing from Varese and spawned in 2011 from the ashes of Nightmare Of Fallen, Omnivore is already a project on hold. The band's lone album (so far at least) is going to burn down villages and consume the fleeing villagers.

Scottish death metallers CEREBRAL BORE have announced a mini European tour supporting reunited Canadian death metal group DESPISED ICON.

CEREBRAL BORE are currently lining up a number of tours before working on their as-yet untitled new album, with more dates due to be announced in the near future.  The "Brutal Road to Impericon Festivals 2014" tour is due to kick off on April 24th in Karlsruhe, Germany, and also features BRUTALITY WILL PREVAIL.

Pure Steel to release Nightmare, the latest from Satanika

SATANIKA was founded by Cristian & Gilberto in Rome/ Italy in 2009. From the beginning the band was ready to play 'straight-in-your-face' Thrash Metal with a strong 80's feeling. Direct, without compromise and oldschool! First full Release was SATANIKATTACK with the help of Desasters drummer Tomentor. This album was also released in 2011 at Iron Shield Records as Gatefold LP with 4 bonustracks. After this Satanika released a 'special longtime EP' with 5 new tracks and 10 recordings from sold out EP's.

GAME OF THRONES STAR FEATURES IN NEW SAVAGE MESSIAH VIDEO; STILLS AVAILABLE

London metallers SAVAGE MESSIAH have finished recording a brand new music video for the track, "Hellblazer", starring GAME OF THRONES actress PIXIE LE KNOT.

With eye-watering riffs, lung-busting vocals and fist-in-the-air fearsomeness, "Hellblazer" tells a tale of power, religion and corrupted innocence through an ancient Illuminati ritual.  The music video was filmed with director TOM WALSH (BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, PENDULUM) and features a mesmerising performance from famed London contortionist PIXIE LE KNOT (GAME OF THRONES Season 3, THE DEVIL INSIDE).

SAVAGE MESSIAH frontman DAVE SILVER comments:

California death horde GRAVEHILL and Dark Descent Records have announced April 1 as the release date for the band's highly-anticipated third full-length, Death Curse, on CD and digital formats with vinyl treatment coming soon. 

Death Curse features over 35 minutes of powerful death metal in the old-school vein and includes guest appearances from some of the biggest legends of death metal. Chris Reifert and Eric Cutler of Autopsy and Kam Lee (Massacre, Death and Bone Gnawer) all made contributions to what threatens to be one of 2014's most skin-grating albums. DARK FOREST was forged in the Black Country, England by guitarist Christian Horton. For just over a decade they have been delivering their uniquely rousing, defiant heavy metal to the world. With the release of their self-made EPs in 2007, the band quickly gained the attention and support of the heavy metal underground, both in England and abroad, and then went from strength to strength, gigging across Europe and the UK and releasing their self titled debut album in 2009, then Dawn of Infinity in 2011.

In 2012 DARK FOREST recruited the outstanding vocalist Josh Winnard as their new front man and shortly afterwards also gained the incredible talents of guitarist Pat Jenkins. With this new line up, the band immediately began writing fresh material and entered the recording studio in June 2013 to produce their third album The Awakening.

The album is recorded in 444hz instead of the standardized 440hz tuning. The decision was based by studying the lost "Solfeggio frequencies", original sound frequencies which were apparently used in Ancient Gregorian Chants and were believed to impart "spiritual blessings when sung in harmony"* and also by studying the nefarious origins of 440hz. Tuning to 444hz corresponds to a "C" of 528hz on the Solfeggio Frequency Scale, the exact frequency used by genetic biochemists to repair broken DNA.  This frequency is also believed to encourage "Transformation and Miracles."

DARK FOREST's innate sense of melody remains intact on The Awakening, as well as the band's trademarked epic twin-guitar dueling, but this time the album is permeated by a general sense of oppression and sorrow and sounds much more reflective than their previous works. Not by coincidence, The Awakening opens with the ending lines of Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem " The Mask of Anarchy" and ends with the anthem "Sons of England".  The awakening must be both spiritual and intellectual and through the rediscovery of our roots and a connection to nature, must lead all humanity to remember the truth - that we are infinite consciousness and we are one. This is the realization that will defeat the global control system of the elite and set humanity free.
